Gavin was born in Buckinghamshire in 1965, and grew up there and in rural Kent. His parents were teachers and he had a quiet family life. His family were ‘church goers’ rather than committed Christians. He sang in the choir, and learnt much more of the Bible than he realised at the time.
Gavin went on to study Human Science at Sussex University, and then qualified as an accountant at John Moore’s University in Liverpool.
During this time he lost any semblance of Christian faith, and happily described himself as an atheist. He had a succession of jobs in the public sector; mostly working for the NHS in different parts of East Anglia.
Gavin was born again three years ago and baptised shortly afterwards at IIC. He has been married to Eileen for just over two years and lives in central Ipswich. He works for Suffolk County Council in the Children’s Services department, where he is responsible for finance, school buildings, staff training, and IT strategy.
Outside of work Gavin enjoys travelling with Eileen, and with his teenage children Sam and Ellie. He also runs half marathons, and enjoys cycling, and is currently studying for a distance learning degree in Theology.
